April 30 is National White Out Child Sexual Abuse Day.
Video Transcript
Stephany Fisher: A local group called Voice Today is proposing a new way to combat child sexual abuse in honor of Child Abuse Awareness Month. Tomorrow is their first ever national White Out Day, encouraging everyone to wear white as a symbol of standing up for the lost innocence of a child.
Angela Williams: White Out Child Sexual Abuse Day is really about getting the issue of child sexual abuse out of the closet and into the public arena. One in four girls and one in six boys have been sexually abused before they’re eighteen years of age and there are forty-two million survivors.
So, this is about giving children a voice of protection and protecting their innocence, and victims a voice of healing and actually giving them a platform to be able to speak up and speak out.
Stephany Fisher: Voice Today is encouraging you again to wear white and spread the word. Learn more about the campaign and sign up for a 5k on May 3rd by visiting cbs46.com and looking under web link.
